View modes
The same collection, four different windows. They all live in the menu, and switching between them changes nothing in the data.
| Title list | The workhorse: one line per movie, with columns you choose. Fastest with a large collection, and the only mode where sorting by several fields and reading a lot of data at once actually works. |
| Cover thumbnails | A wall of posters. Good for browsing, and much better than a list when you are trying to remember what a film was. The thumbnail size is a slider in Preferences; the first switch to this mode builds the thumbnails, which takes a few minutes on a big collection. |
| Cover Flow | The covers as a carousel you scroll through. Pleasant for a hundred films, less so for ten thousand. |
| Virtual shelf | The collection drawn as discs standing on a shelf, with a choice of shelf backgrounds — wood, brick, marble, stone and two dozen others. Closest to looking at the real thing. |
The movie card next to the list
Whatever the list mode, the selected movie is shown as a card. Two things control it:
- (Ctrl+Alt+Z) turns the card panel off entirely, giving the list the whole window.
- opens the card template chooser: over twenty designs, from the plain Standard through Standard Dark, Popcorn, Premiere, Screenplay, Storefront, Metal and Lite Gray to High Contrast for readability. The list previews each one on the current movie before you commit.
Ctrl+Num + and Ctrl+Num - scale the card up and down live; Ctrl+Num * puts it back to normal.
Templates of your own
The My templates… button under the template list opens a window for making your own variant of a design. Your templates are kept in Documents\AllMyMovies\Templates, apart from the supplied ones, so a program update never overwrites them; in the list they are marked (my).
- Create my copy of this template… copies the current template into your folder under a new name and opens the folder. A template is ordinary HTML with placeholders.
- No HTML is needed for a small change. Copy task for AI chatbot puts the template and a description of how it works on the clipboard. Paste it into ChatGPT, Claude, Copilot or any other chatbot, write what you want changed — “a bigger poster”, “show the loan date” — then copy the whole answer and click Paste template from AI…. The answer is saved as a new template of yours; the supplied ones are never changed. If the result is not quite right, tell the chatbot what to fix and paste its new answer again.
The same button is in the report window (Printing) and in the template window of the HTML export (Exporting).
Where the list sits
Ctrl+Z switches between the list on the left with the card beside it, and the list across the top with the card below. The same choice is Display movie list on the top in Preferences. Wide screens usually suit the first; the second gives long titles more room.
Sorting and grouping
Sorting orders the flat list — by title, original title, date added, movie number, rating, personal rating, year or director.
Grouping is more interesting: it turns the list into a tree by director, writer, genre, year, country, studio, media type, media label, media location, aspect ratio, quality, file type, the folder the video files are in, first letter, date added, personal marks or any custom field of yours. Grouping by Folder shows the collection laid out the way it is on the disk. A collection you cannot search through, you can usually still browse. Both menus are in View and in the right-click menu of the list.
