How to find a movie

Four ways, from fastest to most thorough.

Type the first letters

The fast locate box sits above the movie list. Type a few letters of the title and the list jumps to the first match; press Enter and the list is filtered down to everything that contains what you typed. Esc cancels the filter. Shift+Ctrl+F puts the cursor in that box from anywhere in the window.

Filter by one value

Next to it is the Show drop-down. Pick a genre and only that genre is listed. Click the field name to the left of the drop-down to filter by year, country, media location, media type, media label or aspect ratio instead.

Use a quick filter

Quick filter answers the questions you ask most often: what have I not watched yet, what is on the wishlist, what did I lend out, what is overdue, which titles are duplicated, what did I add in the last thirty days. See Quick filter menu.

Search properly

F3 opens Search movie. There is a single Find in any field box for when you only half remember, and an advanced side with a separate box for every field — title, original title, director, scenario, actor, year, country, studio, media label, media location, comments, subtitles, local path, episodes and your own custom fields. A search you expect to repeat can be saved as an advanced filter and then run from the Quick filter menu in one click.
